The Ultimate Gaming PC
The latest videogames require cutting edge hardware to provide the incredible level of detail and the experience of immersion the latest games create. Alienware continues to incorporate the latest technologies long before any of its competitors. This makes an Alienware computer the desktop of choice for use as a gaming pc.
Alienware computers are not only useful as gaming pcs, but they also offer the performance and reliability needed by the multimedia professional. For such professionals Alienware created its workstation line. Alienware workstations offer unsurpassed reliability alongside superior performace. They come with Windows XP Professional SP2 preinstalled and optimized to provide uncompromised system reliability and compatibility with professional multimedia software. All of Alienware's computers are thoroughly tested to ensure the system isoptimized and operating at peak efficiency right out of the box. Alienware spares no expense in using the top of the line brand name components, from the power supply to the latest processors.
Alienware currently offers three desktop lines. Their desktop computer lines are divided by processor: AMD or Intel.
We will focus here on comparing the different desktops that are currently available. The first decision you have to make when shopping for an Alienware computer is what platform you want to run: AMD or Intel. HIstorically, Intel chips are better known for reliability and performance, but in the last year AMD's dual core technology has surpassed Intel's. Intel remains ahead of AMD in ultra-portable low power processors, but AMD is the clear winner when raw performance is the gauge. All you have to do is take a look at the chart below to recognize that AMD is outperforming Intel in high performance gaming.
With the latest release of Intel's Core 2 Duo extreme X6800 chip, Intel is once again the manufacturer of the world's fastest chip used for gaming PC's. In their latest Core 2 Duo chips Intel has not only beat AMD's fastest Athlon chips by 17%, they have done that and been able to decrease their power consumption at the same time. Gone are the days of Intel chips drawing more than 100 watts. These latest chips draw only about 75 watts and perform 30% better than Intel's Extreme Edition, their fastest chip previous to this release. Naturally, Alienware has already incorporated the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 chips into their desktop Area-51 line of computers. You can read the specifications in the tables at the bottom of this page.
Whatever your platform preference is, Alienware will build you a custom performance PC to meet your specific needs. For AMD processors they have the Aurora line of desktops. For Intel processors they have the Area-51 line. Alienware offers a wide range of configurations for both the Aurora and the Area-51 desktops. These configurations are meant as a guide to help you make your own cuto configuration. Of course, You can buy an Alienware computer off the shelf with one of the following configurations, but you can also pick and choose your components to meet your needs exactly. I have organized the main features of each line in the chart below, combining the wide range of processors, graphics cards, memory configurations and hard drives into one field.

Why Buy Alienware?
It may seem like a large initial investment to purchase a top performing pc with the latest technology, but what you have to consider is what it will cost you in the long term. If you don't buy the latest technology today, then you will find yourself purchasing numerous upgrades to be able to run the latest game and multimedia software releases. This can become as expensive or even more expensive than a one time investment in a top of the line PC today.
